The Overseas Territories
The Overseas Territories is the name given to all the territories of France located outside of the European continent. There are many of them in the Atlantic Ocean, in the Caribbean, and on the South American continent, including French Guiana, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthelemy. Further north, close to the coasts of Canada, is Saint Pierre and Miquelon. In the Indian Ocean, the largest territory is Reunion, followed by Mayotte and many other small islands. At the other end of the globe, there is a French presence in the Pacific Ocean, mainly in French Polynesia and New Caledonia. Finally, reaching the vicinity of Antarctica, there is Adélie Land, which is primarily a scientific exploration island.
These territories bring richness and great diversity to the culture of mainland France. The local ancestral traditions continue to thrive for the delight of the Overseas Territories and tourists! The latter come to discover and enjoy a climate, gastronomy, and people different from those living under the sky of the European continent.
